Phreakwars Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Figured this might be a fun topic. Not only want to know what you would eat, but how you would prepare if it happened to YOU. First of all, I would absolutely have a much bigger garden then the one I am planting this year. I would also do like my grandma did and buy hundreds of Mason jars in various sizes. I'd pickle tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, etc.. I'd build a nice big shelf in the basement to hold all my goods. I would stock up on toilet paper... hey it's cheap when you buy it in bulk, why not buy a decades worth? Just think of the savings long term. Hell, I'll even jokingly say, go take out a small loan RIGHT NOW and buy yourself a couple years worth of butt wipe, it's just one less worry you will have to suffer, and the payoff is awesome !! But anyways, then you have your dinner menu available in the store on the cheap. Starting with Banquet frozen dinners, I have seen tham at 77 cents each, great buy if you have a very large deep freeze. Buy them all, even the crappy ones... hey if your broke, even the mac and cheese meal will be good. Kraft macoroni and cheese is always good, I don't care how poor I am, I will not buy nothing but Kraft. IT'S THE CHEESIEST !! Oh you got you ever popular RAMAN noodles too, but lets get real here, no matter how many times you tell yourself you like them, you really don't. Do yourself a favor and use them as a main dish with real food mixed in. Real real poor, I could resort to Macaroni with some salt and pepper added, no sauce, just water. Then, I guess there is always dumpster diving if things get worse then that.. . . Quote NewSucks500.com The return of the Suckage
Old Salt Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I'd stay away from prepared foods. Much cheaper to cook from scratch and my wife does a great job of it. Just takes a little longer, with no instant gratification of taking your meal out of the microwave. Quote Been wrong before, could be wrong now, will probably be wrong again. Don't take yourself so dang seriously. ;)
wez Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I'd live off leaves, berries, grasshoppers, and fish full of mercury from any lake and river USA. Plenty of squirrels around here too.. :D Nor am I too good to dumpster dive if starving.. hahahaha Quote I'm sick in mind and spirit, the mirror tells me lies ~ Ozzy

Let's patent em and get rich! :D Could always rob a bank.. either you get away and can buy food, or you get busted and get three squares a day.. emkay64 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Big garden. Staples like flour, yeast, sugar and salt (I'm a really good cook :P ). Build an excellent cold storage for overwintering vegetables like cabbage, turnips, potatoes etc. and for keeping meat. If it is a serious depression, I'll buy a cow, a few chickens and I'll ****ing hunt and I can totally fish! I hate packaged anything mostly because I can always cook something better! Quote

Cricket Posted June 1, 2008 Posted June 1, 2008 I guess I'd have to learn to like venison and elk. *shudders* I'd definitely plant a garden like I've been wanting to. I'd stock up on staples like sugar, flour, dried milk. I can make jelly, but I'd learn how to can veggies, etc. I don't know what I'd do without Pepsi, however... Quote

It's a total fraud. Most welfare go to the rich of this country: the military-industrial complex, the bankers, the foreign dictators, it's totally out of control. This idea that the government has services or goods that they can pass on is a complete farce. Governments have nothing. They can't create anything, they never have.
