snafu Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 Who can afford it? Crap I wanna go but it costs so damn much. Anyway this was a test page... Continue Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
Moderators IWS Posted May 26, 2008 Moderators Posted May 26, 2008 Say, Hooraah! You have your own forum, where you get to be the mod, thanks to Cloaked and Phreakwars. Hoooraaahh! snafu Posted May 29, 2008 Author Posted May 29, 2008 So I want to run my boat in a lake to make sure it's sea worthy. Plus I would like to go hooligan fishing for some cheap bait. LoL.. Cheap bait? Right!! I think I need to find a cheaper sport. Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
Cricket Posted June 2, 2008 Posted June 2, 2008 I haven't been fishing in about 3 years. You're right...it is too expensive. I mean, I don't go for the fish, I go for the fun of fishing but there are other things I'd like to spend my money on right now. Quote
snafu Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 OK I've loaned out two of my halibut poles to one person. Loaned out two of my clam guns and DVD player to another. Am I gonna get to go out! Crap! I had a friend tell me of a very popular place to fish that I can take my motorcycle and trailer to for king salmon. This could kill two birds with one stone. I would get a bike ride and a fishing trip in one. To cool! But I need to find someone to go with or run by myself. My buddie is sick and has to get used to the meds he needs to take. snafu Posted June 21, 2008 Author Posted June 21, 2008 I'm stoked! I signed up on another forum. Don't worry I won't abandon you. :P It's a local fishing, boating and hunting forum. To damn cool! I'm not the worlds most experienced fisherman so this will be an awesome source of information. They even got an "open seat" thread. So if someone has an extra seat in the car or boat they are going in, they post it. Pretty cool a? My fishing plans are to go south and hit the low tides for clams. Because of gas prices I will consolidate my trip into pulling the boat and launching it in the hopes of getting halibut. Scratch that hope part. I don't get skunked fishing halibut (if seas are permitting and I get out). Then two weeks after (Maybe three. I've baited my new forum for info) I will stock up on red salmon. If done right I should be able to limit out with 45 fish. Now that sounds pretty absurd for me but I'm going for the gusto! ;) Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
snafu Posted July 12, 2008 Author Posted July 12, 2008 OK I'll bore you none fishing people with my fishing report. On the 2nd of July Thu the 4Th I went to Deep Creek. Actually this is a launch to the ocean and not just a creek. They us a tractor to launch your boat for you. It's pretty cool for a small boat like mine. I don't have to spend an hour or so getting out of the Homer inlet. Anyway I get out and my Jet starts to give me **** and I lose half my power. Anybody thats been out on the ocean knows this ain't cool. .. But I make it out and ended up catching two chickens (small halibut), one of which I let go because you couldn't even call it a hatchling. My son and I both broke our lines on some big ones and I'm blaming it on some bum swivels. They have a spiral ring that you tie the line to. Well my belief is that the two ends of the spiral cut my line. A buddy of mine informed me that the new line I bought needs a different knot than I regularly use. This is probably the case but seeings how it cost me $55 to launch each time I'm sticking with the bad swivel story. But on a happy note we were able to harvest 120 large size razor clams. The Picture of the eagle was also clamming that day. http://justbs.us/gallery/data/500/medium/Jul-4-2008_047.jpg Anyway tomorrow I'm going on a suicide run. I'm going to go to work (overtime) then take off to Seward. A friend already has his boat down there so I will get to ride my motorcycle and pull my tent trailer. :D Yay!! I will fish on Sunday and head back home ready to be bushy tailed and bright eyed for work on Monday. Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
snafu Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 Fishing report: Just got back from the Keani River. I got 30 huge, simply gorgeous, fresh, plump red salmon. :D Not with out a cost mind you and I don't mean just at the pump (although I was throughly gouged there). What could've happened, happened . :o First I couldn't start the boat. I found I had a bum coil wire. So I had to pull out of the water and go hunt one down. Then I only had half of my power. I thought it was my jet but it turned out it was just my gas/water separator. I ran for 3 1/2 hours before figuring that one out but I caught fish on every pass so who cares. While I was working on the engine I dropped anchor. Well when I was ready to go I couldn't bring it up. So I had to cut it. I had the wrong kind of anchor for the mud I was in. Next came the big collision. Its a real mad house down there with 200 boats or so in fast moving currents. While I was helping my sons friend get a fish out of his net, some knuckle head cut across our bow. Well he's yelling Hay hay hay when he should'a been putting it in reverse to avoid a collision. This was my sons first time at the helm and didn't know what to do. So instead of slamming it in reverse he hit the throttle and spun the wheel around. We ended up hitting his boat with our stern and put a nice gash in his boat. It was his fault so I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. The next day I go out in low tide. BIG mistake. I go skipping across the river when I noticed I was on the wrong side of the river. I tried to cut across and got stuck in the mud. We rocked the boat and I fought tooth and nail to get off of it. If I didn't we would've been stuck out there for about six hours until high tide came in. Boy I would'a looked pretty stupid sitting out there all damn day. BUT all in all I had a great fishing trip. Well worth the heart ache. Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
emkay64 Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Holy Snaf! Sounds like a gong show :D That kind of stuff always happens when we go too. Of course the only collision we've had is with a rock in the middle of the lake. It was kinda funny. We hit it on the way out...it was totally hidden. So then we were all kinda....well high....on the way back, having a conversation about where the damn rock was and we hit it again :D Just a scrape, but still. Quote

The gong show. Yeah that sucks when stuff like that happens. You flash back to how vulnerable you are out there. You really have to respect the waters. What kind of boat do you have? I worry about fiberglass boats hitting rocks like that. I have a heavy gauge aluminum boat so it would take a lot to put a hole in it. Quote *NEVER FORGOTTEN*
emkay64 Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I think the brand name is Amana. It is old and ugly and can be hosed out. It's an old salmon fishing boat. Small...but rugged, spouts blue smoke and looks really classy in the boat launch line up. :o Quote
