'Burn Quran Day' an outrage to Muslims

By Akbar Ahmed, Special to CNNAugust 20, 2010 9:18 a.m. EDT

(CNN) -- In less than a month, Pastor Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida plans to host "Burn a Quran Day" to mark the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The pastor, author of the book "Islam is of the Devil," is using the burning to urge American Christians to "stand up" to what he describes as a monolithic Muslim threat. A Facebook page for the event has accrued thousands of "likes" and Jones has said people have been mailing him Qurans to burn.

Why does Pastor Terry Jones hate the troops so much?

I'm still amazed that all those shouting "First Amendment" when it comes to the GZM, aren't on here yet defending Pastor Jones' right to do this.

Because we only have first amendment rights when it is politically correct.........at least according to the progressive mindset.

Hey, I think this guy is way over the top too, his actions are intentionally provocative but not near the level of the GZM. But the GZM is wanted by Muslims and the progressives will bend over backwards for Muslims.

I seem to remember a few stories od bible and american flag burning in other Countries in the past, as well as a few celebrations for the 9/11 attacks even by Muslims here in America, so I really don't think this one idiot burning a Kuran is really that big of a deal. I am sure he will become a target of anger for his actions, they might even kill him for it, but I don't think you can anger the Muslims more then they already are, they already want to kill all infidels, not sure how you can get more angry than that......

Most if not all stereotypes hold some truth.

Of course he has the right to do it. I think I'm going to burn a bible that day to even it out on my end though. Which I also have the right to do.

Also, the guy is taking it a bit far. Decry it all you want, but burn their Holy Book, and you just look like an ass.

Holy sh*t! Where?s the Tylenol?"

Because I hadn't seen this thread until you posted it in the Shoutbox. That's why.

I agree, it makes him look like an ass.

much like the folks so dead set on building a Muslim whatever-you-wanna-call-it so close to Ground Zero.

Sure they have the right to do it, but it makes them all look like an ass.

I hate signatures, so I don't have one.

wait....

But why so? Why does building it there make them look like asses? It's not a monument to the attack. It's a multicultural center. I want your honest opinion on this. Everyone's. Why do people associate Islam with 9/11? It was hardcore radical Islam, a perversion of their religion. Why do we look at it and dislike the fact that it's near there because they have the same religion? I don't get it. But maybe someone could clear up the connection for me.
