One day, for pleasure,

We read of Lancelot, by love constrained:

Alone, suspecting nothing, at our leisure.

. . .

And so was he who wrote it; that day we read

. . .

No further. . . .

It's a mistake to think that poor people get the benefit from the welfare system. It's a total fraud. Most welfare go to the rich of this country: the military-industrial complex, the bankers, the foreign dictators, it's totally out of control. This idea that the government has services or goods that they can pass on is a complete farce. Governments have nothing. They can't create anything, they never have. All they can do is steal from one group and give it to another at the destruction of the principles of freedom, and we ought to challenge that concept. - Ron Paul

The Ministry of Truth contained' date=' it was said, three thousand rooms above ground level, and corresponding ramifications below. Scattered about London there were just three other buildings of similar appearance and size. So completely did they dwarf the surrounding architecture that from the roof of Victory Mansions you could see all four of them simultaneously. They were the homes of the four Ministries between which the entire apparatus of government was divided. The Ministry of Truth, which concerned itself with news, entertainment, education, and the fine arts. The Ministry of Peace, which concerned itself with war. The Ministry of Love, which maintained law and order. And the Ministry of Plenty, which was responsible for economic affairs. Their names, in Newspeak: Minitrue, Minipax, Miniluv, and Miniplenty. [/i']

The Ministry of Love was the really frightening one. There were no windows in it at all. Winston had never been inside the Ministry of Love, nor within half a kilometre of it. It was a place impossible to enter except on official business, and then only by penetrating through a maze of barbed-wire entanglements, steel doors, and hidden machine-gun nests. Even the streets leading up to its outer barriers were roamed by gorilla-faced guards in black uniforms, armed with jointed truncheons.

The voice from the telescreen was still pouring forth its tale of prisoners and booty and slaughter, but the shouting outside had died down a little. The waiters were turning back to their work. One of them approached with the gin bottle. Winston, sitting in a blissful dream, paid no attention as his glass was filled up. He was not running or cheering any longer. He was back in the Ministry of Love, with everything forgiven, his soul white as snow. He was in the public dock, confessing everything, implicating everybody. He was walking down the white-tiled corridor, with the feeling of walking in sunlight, and an armed guard at his back. The longhoped-for bullet was entering his brain.

He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother. ~ 1984 George Orwell

Wez...I both hate you and love you right now. 1984 is one of my favorite books of all time...but you included the only part of the book that pisses me off. The last paragraph were all of the torture had actually worked and he was finally brainwashed. Damn you, Wez!

The megalomaniac differs from the narcissist by the fact that he wishes to be powerful rather than charming, and seeks to be feared rather than loved. To this type belong many lunatics and most of the great men of history. ~ Bertrand Russell

Any newspaper, from the first line to the last, is nothing but a web of horrors, I cannot understand how an innocent hand can touch a newspaper without convulsing in disgust. ---Charles Baudelaire

All advertising, whether it lies in the field of business or politics, will carry success by continuity and regular uniformity of application. - Adolf Hitler

The size of the lie is a definite factor in causing it to be believed, for the vast masses of the nation are in the depths of their hearts more easily deceived than they are consciously and intentionally bad. The primitive simplicity of their minds render them more easy prey to a big lie tan a small one, for they themselves often tell little lies but would be ashamed to tell a big one. - Adolf Hitler

One should guard against believing the great masses to be more stupid than they actually are. - Adolf Hitler

"Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the [u.S.] media."~ Noam Chomsky

The corporate grip on opinion in the United States is one of the wonders of the Western world. No First World country has ever managed to eliminate so entirely from its media all objectivity - much less dissent. Of course, it is possible for any citizen with time to spare, and a canny eye, to work out what is actually going on, but for the many there is not time, and the network news is the only news even though it may not be news at all but only a series of flashing fictions... ~ Gore Vidal

Anyone who challenges the prevailing orthodoxy finds himself silenced with surprising effectiveness ~ George Orwell

The greatest triumphs of propaganda have been accomplished, not by doing something, but by refraining from doing. Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth ~ Aldous Huxley

The minority, the ruling class at present, has the schools and press, usually the Church as well, under its thumb. This enables it to organize and sway the emotions of the masses, and make its tool of them ~ Albert Einstein

Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear ? kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor ? with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it. ~ General Douglas MacArthur (1957)

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think. ~ Adolf Hitler

"Now our opponents tell you not to worry about their tax increases. They tell you they are not going to tax your family. No, they?re just going to tax ?businesses.? So unless you buy something from a ?business,? like groceries or clothes or gasoline... or unless you get a paycheck from a big or a small ?business,? don?t worry... it?s not going to affect you. They say they are not going to take any water out of your side of the bucket, just the ?other? side of the bucket! That?s their idea of tax reform.? ?Fred Thompson
