Re: "Dog" Chapman screwed, show pulled from A&E The thing that bothers me most about this is that the son recorded this convo 8 months ago, and is just now selling it. I thought Dog seemed very remorseful on Larry King last night (the 15 or so minutes that I watched of it anyway.) And seriously, why is the word such a bad word? It's just six letters. It has no power unless you let it. If it's really that bad then where is the outcry towards the gansta rappers that use it more than they use the word "the"? Or the homeboys that toss it back and forth as a term of brotherhood and friendship? (See Rush Hour for a good example of this.) I'm not excusing Dog, cause he screwed up, and he screwed up hard. But he is accepting blame for it, not pushing it off on any number of people or circumnstances that he could (ie: The Inquirer, his son, his ex-wife, rappers, etc.)

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider, That wriggled and jiggled and wiggled inside her. She swallowed the spider to catch the fly. But I dunno why she swallowed that fly - Perhaps she'll die.

The church only has a handful of followers, and the majority of them are related to the churches founder, Fred Phelps. This church has nothing to do with any other Baptist church in America- other than they spell "Baptist" the same way. and yes, they do thrive on the publicity... and unlike some other world religions, you will find many a Christian that will speak out against the fanatical idiots that claim to follow the same faith- like Phelps and his group.

Re: Hey, why don't we "LIBERATE" Burma? ok, that makes more sense, but it is still close minded. We aren't in a court of law, we are on a discussion board. And instead of actually discussing issues with people, you, admittedly, are filling in peoples answers for questions you haven't even asked yet. I have seen you be wrong at this a number of times, but it doesn't seem to help you understand that you really don't know others as well as you think you do. But I will bow out now in regards to this, as it has nothing to do with the rest of the discussion.

Living somewhat near where this happened, I am torn on whether jail time is called for or not. The guilt and pain that I am sure this mother now feels is more than adequate to keep her from ever doing it again. If she ever has more kids, you can bet your bottom dollar that she will watch over it to the point of overprotection. However... This happens way to often in Arizona. (Does this happen in other places, and it just isn't as hot, so the kids don't die and thus no news about it???) I think the threat of going to jail, if it helps keep this on the mind of other parents and keeps them from leaving their kids in cars, is a good thing. I dunno...

Re: Hey, why don't we "LIBERATE" Burma? quite honestly the most close-minded thing I have ever read. And Wez, you do know that Jesus didn't speak English, right? The translations that you read are just that- translations. And translations from a more complex language into a simple one. The meaning single verses can be very much taken a multitude of ways (or made to 'fit like a glove' as you say.) It is extremely important to look, as Timesoke said, at the complete context in which it was written.

The mom is now in jail. This is so sad, that poor baby.

If the 53 year old lady ran a stop sign, then it is her fault. Excellent advice, and I agree 100%.

Re: Schools giving out the "pill"? Excellent point another excellent point.

Re: Schools giving out the "pill"? In the classroom setting, I don't discuss contraception. But I do encourage the kids to discuss it with their parents. If they want to talk to me one on one, I will do that. But since I do not agree with sex outside of marriage (and I don't feel that God does either) I don't give the "but if you are going to anyway" speech. Some of my thoughts on sex: Sex is a beautiful thing, created by God, not only for procreation, but to build an intimate bond that He intended to be only shared between husband and wife. In the right setting (marriage) sex is amazing, healthy, and positive. In the wrong setting it can be a negative experience: lead to disease, unwanted pregnancy, emotional scars, among other things. By God's design I think it is best to wait til marriage, and I share that with my group, both in the classroom setting, and by my own life example. I don't think one is doomed to hell for all eternity if they have premarital sex, I just believe that they are cheating themselves out of the best that God has in store for them and their future spouse. While I understand that it is hard to be an abstinent teenager, it is absolutely possible to survive the teen years without having sex (and again, I lead by example.) I do realize that some teens in my group may have already had sex, and if so, I know that God is a loving and forgiving God, and He is able to help them if they desire to recommit their bodies to Him and save themselves from this point forward.

I know you, and I know that I know you. you know?

Re: Schools giving out the "pill"? Wez, I never said that parents couldn't use outside assistance, but to totally turn the experience over to the gov't and school system is not a good idea. Some parents may go to the school and find out what is being taught and how before the sex ed class. These are good parents because they are involved in the sex education of their children- even if they themselves may not teach it. Others (the ones to which I am referring) just turn the entire discussion over to the schools without being involved or informed. That is a bad idea, in my opinion. Now please, lets not turn this post into a "Wez hates eddo" post, ok? Try to put the past behind you and read what I am actually saying instead of putting your thoughts into my words. ok?
